3M PTFE5490

Main features

  • Low-Friction Non-Stick Surface
  • Flat Extruded PTFE Backing
  • Clean-Removal Silicone Adhesive

Product Description

3M PTFE Film Tape 5490 has been discontinued. It is an adhesive-backed extruded PTFE film tape with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive. The 0.05 mm PTFE backing creates a smooth, low-friction, non-stick surface, while the 0.09 mm total tape construction lies flat and resists curling during unwind. The tape supports web movement, release, masking, and temporary chemical-barrier functions on process surfaces. Its silicone adhesive provides clean removal from a range of substrates. Commercial organic solvents can attack the adhesive, so solvent exposure is an important selection limit for the intended application.

Key features

  • Low-friction non-stick surface: Supports web movement and clean release on rollers, plates, belts, and other process equipment.
  • Flat curl-resistant backing: The extruded PTFE film lies flatter than typical skived PTFE tape and resists curling during unwind.
  • Clean-removal silicone adhesive: Provides pressure-sensitive attachment and clean removal from a range of compatible surfaces.

Applications

Applications include low-friction web handling on rollers and formers, easy-release surfaces on rollers, plates, and belts, temporary sealing and masking, and machinery noise or rattle reduction.
